Lord's goal of establishing himself as a popular writer.

Alright HBI, I've been thinking about this for a while. I'm going to write either a novel or a novella and then submit it to UK/Irish/International writing competitions either in the hopes of winning or networking within the industry. I aim to write somewhere between 35000 and 80000 words within the next two months. This will be the rough draft. The following two months will be for editing. The finished product should be read sometime just before April. Then I will launch a relentless torrent of submissions until I acquire even a microscopic level of success.

The problem is, I can't think of a marketable yet controversial idea. So I'm handing it over to you HBI. With your agglomerated contributions, I'm going to write my breakout novel. I am willing to take any and all suggestions. Right now I am playing around with a segment of the story being told within a North Korean concentration camp, and another dealing with the declining rate of coffee bean crops in Mozambique due to global warming and how this is affecting not just the denizens of the village but also increasing the global cost of the coffee industry. Anything you can think of, throw it in. Writing for me has always been an alchemy.

I cannot stress how seriously this project is going to be taken and how fastidiously my writing schedule will be attended to.

do you know any good music criticism sites that release end of year lists that are good? i just looked a pitchfork's top songs list and can't even summon the will to make a comment beyond this.

I know you have them, fellow cosmonauts.

1. I've been playing around with an idea based on the classic music hall monologue The Green Eye of the Yellow God, in which a character becomes obsessed with the idea of stealing the emerald in the gold statue and having it for himself, despite the fact that he can find no conclusive evidence that it actually exists or not, and eventually he travels to Nepal or Kathmandu to try and steal it. He actually acquires it against all odds but trying to go home because difficult due to a series of very strange occurrences that may or may not be paranormal, it's left ambiguous, but perhaps he's managed to anger the gods with his ridiculous behaviour. He realises the only way he will be able to leave Nepal is if he returns the emerald to the statue, but that is easier said than done.

2. A story that follows a few European journalists as they tour North Korea. By all accounts they are treated to a lavish lifestyle which makes North Korea appear to be an incredibly nice country to live in. They do, however, begin to notice small things such as the fact that the lighting in their hotel turns off completely as soon as they leave - meaning not just their rooms but the entire building - as well as the fact that every conversation seems almost too perfectly scripted, such as the Italian accidentally making the acquaintance of a North Korean who also speaks perfect Italian. These coincidences mount up until the journalists begin to think there's something going on behind the scenes, something sinister perhaps...
